SWAN Day, “Support Women Artists Now”, is celebrated internationally each year on the last Saturday of Women’s History month.
This year, Art Lab hosted SWAN Day Staten Island for the second consecutive year. The three panelists included Elaine Mendez, from Labyrinth, Vivian Vassar of Hey Viv retro clothing, and Ann Marie McDonnell, local artist and Director of Education at the Alice Austen House.
The panel discussed their reasons for participation in the recent Women’s March, what it meant in the context of their own art careers, and how to apply some of their strategies to better promote Women Artists. Sam Popp, the moderator, did a great job keeping on topic as politics inevitably began to creep in and the crowd became more involved in the discussion. NY1 news sent out a crew and you can read about it on NY1 News.
All in all it was a great discussion and we look forward to hosting this event again next year – and to seeing you there!
