    During this introductory course, we will explore intaglio, drypoint and monoprint techniques, with an emphasis on hands-on studio practice.  Each process will be introduced through demonstration and practiced in individual projects. Beginner and advanced students are welcome.

    Working with images of their choice students will learn how to prepare plates, apply grounds, develop pen-and-ink like effects using acid, and print multiple editions using an etching press. Alongside intaglio processes, students will experiment with additive and subtractive methods, layering, and spontaneous mark-making to create unique, one-of-a-kind monoprints.

    Learn how to get your camera off automatic. Students will be taught about aperture, ISO, and shutter speed and how they all relate to getting the shot you desire. Properly expose your images through exposure lessons, shooting, and in-class review. Includes discussions of camera settings, sensors, lenses, and file formats.  Students will learn to shoot in different lighting, objects in motion, indoor, and outdoor scenes.  Various topics will be discussed about your  digital camera, flash, manual settings, and editing.

  • Practice Makes Perfect! 10 weeks of studio time with a live model - details below.The classroom monitor will manage model poses and break sessions. Poses lengths will vary. Typically, the evening will begin with shorter poses and pose length will increase throughout the session.

  • Printmaking, What a Relief! Students will learn skills such as preparing materials, carving blocks, and printing methods, as well as working with multiple plates and reduction techniques. These fundamental tools of design will strengthen your skills towards creating expansive space demonstrating strong three-dimensional forms in your compositions. Portrait drawing and landscape drawing are also subject options. For those students who are painters, this workshop will inform and strengthen your work.     For the first 6 weeks students will choose their subjects to paint and for those of you interested in figure painting, the last 4 sessions will have a live model option for portrait painting. Unless there is a request for guidance, students are free to choose concepts and subject matter. For example, still life, landscape, abstraction/imagination, or copying images from photo references. Students can paint in any medium such as oil, acrylic, and/or watercolor. Different skills and approaches will be discussed, brush and paint application, transparencies, drawing in color, color mixing, and color relationships to name a few. I will present ways to build and refine your painting process towards a satisfactory result. Line, space, scale, color, volume, and value will be considered, and composition will be emphasized.A $20 Registration Fee will be added to your total.
