The first session will introduce the materials needed and basic set up to paint outdoors. The instructor will review how to compose a painting using a viewfinder to assist in designing and scaling the subject matter. Basic drawing skills are a prerequisite so one can focus on learning color mixing on site to capture natural light and shadows. Students will have the experience of working outdoors with the instructor, asking questions and developing a painting created on location. Students will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. This class will cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Each student is encouraged to come into class with their own ideas of things they would like to sculpt or they can try out some of the suggested projects that Ryan will provide for you.Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.Students that are interested in acquiring their own glazes should find low-fire glazes that fire at cone 05 or 06, not cone 5 or 6, those are mid-fire glazes which will not work for low-fire clay.

Students will work with air dry clay to start and will be taught to hand build a variety of different types of clay pieces using various techniques such as: slab, coil, pinch pot, joined clay, pressed molds & creative design. The last two weeks students will work on a ceramic piece which will be glazed & fired in our in-house kiln using professional glazes. All materials & firing included.This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.
