Students will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. This class will cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Each student is encouraged to come into class with their own ideas of things they would like to sculpt or they can try out some of the suggested projects that Ryan will provide for you.
    Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total. 
    Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.Students that are interested in acquiring their own glazes should find low-fire glazes that fire at cone 05 or 06, not cone 5 or 6, those are mid-fire glazes which will not work for low-fire clay.

    Introductory class will concentrate on the techniques of pinching, coil, and slab building during the class and encourage the development of pottery and practical objects as well as encourage small sculpture. A kiln is on the premises and we fire as needed.  Extra attention is paid to new students and beginners. Returnees welcome. This class meets once a week for 8 weeks. A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.

Students will be taught about aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, color balance, lighting, framing, editing, and more. Each student will have time shooting and participate in class reviews/critiques. Students will learn to shoot in different lighting, objects in motion, indoor, and outdoor scenes.

  • Intaglio & Monotype Printmaking *NEW* Robyn Tang153.1 | Thu, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM | Room A Begins July 9 | $281 | 8 weeks 

    During this introductory course, we will explore intaglio, drypoint and monoprint techniques, with an emphasis on hands-on studio practice.  Each process will be introduced through demonstration and practiced in individual projects. Beginner and advanced students are welcome.

    Working with images of their choice students will learn how to prepare plates, apply grounds, develop pen-and-ink like effects using acid, and print multiple editions using an etching press. Alongside intaglio processes, students will experiment with additive and subtractive methods, layering, and spontaneous mark-making to create unique, one-of-a-kind monoprints.
