    Students will learn different varieties of clay work such as coil, slab, pinch pots, joined clay and pressed molds, which will be glazed with different glazing methods and fired in the onsite kiln. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity.
    All materials, including clay, are included.
    This class meets once a week for 10 weeks.

    Ceramic Techniques  Ryan Minkoff
    Ceramic Techniques will focus on teaching the basics of sculpting with handbuilding techniques such as slabs, coils, pinch pots, and molding. Students will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. This class will cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Each student is encouraged to come into class with their own ideas of things they would like to sculpt or they can try out some of the suggested projects that Ryan will provide for you.Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total. 
    Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.Students that are interested in acquiring their own glazes should find low-fire glazes that fire at cone 05 or 06, not cone 5 or 6, those are mid-fire glazes which will not work for low-fire clay.
  • Color to Canvas: Oil Painting Basics *NEW* Lynnanne O'Connor Daly128.0 | Wed, 5:30 - 8:30 PM | Room F Begins April 8 | $262 | 6 weeks remainStarting from the beginning, students will be shown the proper handling of oil paint, including set-up and clean-up best practices. This class will explore the qualities that make oil painting unique, such as the ability of painting wet on wet, dry- brush, and the importance of the brush stroke; as well as explore various painting styles and techniques, referencing artists, and looking at classical and modern qualities of art. Students will paint from life and imagination, while learning the importance of observation. Students will be taught how to mix color, how to look at proportions and see light and shadow. Students will be shown distinctions specific to oil painting. They will learn how to work in a compositional manner.This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.
    A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.Must be 16 years or older to take this class. 
  • Practice Makes Perfect! 10 weeks of studio time with a live model - details below.The classroom monitor will manage model poses and break sessions. Poses lengths will vary. Typically, the evening will begin with shorter poses and pose length will increase throughout the session.
  • Printmaking, What a Relief! Keri Sheheen153.7 | Wed, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM | Room A Begins April 29 | $262 | 6 weeks This 6 week hands-on course will explore relief printmaking techniques using linoleum blocks. Students will learn skills such as preparing materials, carving blocks, and printing methods, as well as working with multiple plates and reduction techniques. Open to printmakers of all skill levels.Class cost covers all in-house materials, such as solvents, cleaning solutions, and common printing inks.Class meets once a week for 6 weeks.
