Color to Canvas: Oil Painting Basics – Wed/Fall 26

Description

Do you want to oil paint but don’t know how to start? Do you know how to paint in another medium, but not oils? No worries- this class will take you through day one of oil painting, including the set-up, clean-up basics, and everything in between.

Designed with the beginner in mind, but all are welcome!

Supplies List *Please bring with you to class on day one*

Oil Paints, Please be sure not to get student- grade paint, such as Winton, and check that your paint ingredients are pigment and oil only. One recommended brand is Utrecht; you can order online through Utrecht or Blick.

I tube of titanium white/ Utrecht White/ or titanium white and zinc  (150 ml)

1 tube each of cadmium red pure, cadmium yellow pure, ultramarine blue, yellow ochre, burnt umber (37ml)

One Oil Painting Brush round #6 or #8

One cotton, 2 stretched canvasses either 18″ by 24″ or no smaller than “16 on either side, rectangular shape preferred

One smock or old clothes

Optional:

alizarin crimson pure, raw umber, burnt sienna, phthalo blue pure (37ml)

a palette knife

Paper towels (cheap ones work better!)

liquid dish soap

A clean rag

About your Instructor

Lynnanne O’C onnorDaly has a BA in Art and Psychology, with a BS equivalent in Art, 2006 Summa Cum Laude CSI, CUNY, and continued years of private painting studies. Over a 25-year career, Ms Daly has been an educator for children, teens and adults, teaching various programs, and an education administrator. She has worked for The College of Staten Island, in their Instructional Support Services and Adult Education programs, The JCC Out of School Youth, GED, and ESL programs, as a Montessori School Art Specialist, and other various art programs for Art Lab.  She was gallery manager for the Newhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art (early 2000’s) and is currently a curator at the Art Lab Gallery.  For the last 20 years She has been a coordinator, navigator, and administrator of such programs as well.
