This alternative photographic process creates a “photograph” without the use of a camera or a lens by placing objects directly onto photographic paper. Students are encouraged to think out of the box and experiment with different techniques to create these unique works of art.Unlike some of the other alternative processes, this process produces a true black and white image and can only be done in a traditional darkroom. This is a great workshop for non-photographers who may be interested in learning a new way to create art without having to navigate the technical aspects of cameras. - Ceramic Handbuilding for Young Artists (Ages 9-12) Ryan Minkoff782.1 | Tue 4:00 - 6:00 PM | Room E Begins January 7 | $276 | 8 WeeksStudents will learn different varieties of clay work such as coil, slab, pinch pots, joined clay and pressed molds, which will be glazed with different glazing methods and fired in the onsite kiln. - Ceramic Techniques Ryan MinkoffCeramic Techniques will focus on teaching the basics of sculpting with handbuilding techniques such as slabs, coils, pinch pots, and molding. You will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. We’ll cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Come into class with your own ideas of things you would like to sculpt or try out some of the suggested projects that we will provide for you.Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.
