    Grieve Well; Mourn on Purpose: A Three-Saturday Art Expressive Healing Workshop For Women.

    Grief is love that has nowhere to go; art is our access… bringing light to dark places.

    Join artist, grief doula, and educator Adrienne Mikulka of Art.Heals.Grief.com for a gentle three-Saturday gathering exploring grief through artmaking, reflection, and community witness. Rooted in the companioning philosophy of Alan Wolfelt, this workshop invites participants to honor loss rather than avoid it, and to discover meaningful ways to mourn on purpose and restore our capacity to love. Through guided art experiences, reflective writing, conversation, and ritual, women will create meaningful works that help give shape and movement to grief. Together we will explore:

    • the difference between grief and mourning
    • memory and continuing bonds
    • grief bursts and linking objects
    • creative expression as a language for sorrow and love
    • community witness and compassionate listening
    • personal mourning practices for life beyond the workshop
    No artistic experience is necessary.This class meets once a week for 3 weeks on, 07/25, 08/01, and 08/08.A $20 registration fee will be added to your total.

    Introductory class will concentrate on the techniques of pinching, coil, and slab building during the class and encourage the development of pottery and practical objects as well as encourage small sculpture.     Students will learn different varieties of clay work such as coil, slab, pinch pots, joined clay and pressed molds, which will be glazed with different glazing methods and fired in the onsite kiln. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity.All materials, including clay, are included.This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.

Students will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. This class will cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Each student is encouraged to come into class with their own ideas of things they would like to sculpt or they can try out some of the suggested projects that Ryan will provide for you.
    Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total. 
    Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.Students that are interested in acquiring their own glazes should find low-fire glazes that fire at cone 05 or 06, not cone 5 or 6, those are mid-fire glazes which will not work for low-fire clay.
