    • creative expression as a language for sorrow and love
    • community witness and compassionate listening

This is a 10-week crochet class for beginners who want to learn how to make with their hands in a steady and clear way. We will start at the very beginning… how to hold the hook, how to hold the yarn, how to form the first loop. Each week builds on the last so you are not overwhelmed, just practicing, repeating, and gaining control. You will learn the foundational stitches and understand how they actually work. You will make small projects such as a scarf, a granny square, and a mug cozy. You will learn how to read patterns so you are not dependent on a teacher once the course ends. By the end of ten weeks, you will be able to start and complete a project on your own.This is a space to learn a skill, build confidence, and leave with something you made yourself. Advanced students welcome, this is also a space for guidance and community. Practice yarn provided, Please supply your own crochet hooks and project yarn.

    Ceramic Techniques – Fall 2026

Students will also learn how to use a combination of those various techniques and how to attach pieces by scoring and slipping the pieces. This class will cover everything you need to know about sculpting, wedging clay, working with tools, glaze vs. underglaze, and how to finish your piece. Each student is encouraged to come into class with their own ideas of things they would like to sculpt or they can try out some of the suggested projects that Ryan will provide for you.
    Great for both those who are looking for an introduction to handbuilding and those who are more experienced, looking to improve their skills, or to have dedicated studio time to work on ceramic projects.A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total. 
    Materials: Tools and glazes are provided, but you will need your own block of clay which you can buy at Art Lab for $26.54 on your first day of class.Students that are interested in acquiring their own glazes should find low-fire glazes that fire at cone 05 or 06, not cone 5 or 6, those are mid-fire glazes which will not work for low-fire clay.

    Introductory class will concentrate on the techniques of pinching, coil, and slab building during the class and encourage the development of pottery and practical objects as well as encourage small sculpture.
