Value relationships, shape relationships, line quality and perspective will be demonstrated and discussed. These fundamental tools of design will strengthen your skills towards creating expansive space demonstrating strong three-dimensional forms in your compositions. Portrait drawing and landscape drawing are also subject options. For those students who are painters, this workshop will inform and strengthen your work. Join artist, grief doula, and educator Adrienne Mikulka of Art.Heals.Grief.com for a gentle three-Saturday gathering exploring grief through artmaking, reflection, and community witness. Rooted in the companioning philosophy of Alan Wolfelt, this workshop invites participants to honor loss rather than avoid it, and to discover meaningful ways to mourn on purpose and restore our capacity to love. Through guided art experiences, reflective writing, conversation, and ritual, women will create meaningful works that help give shape and movement to grief. Together we will explore:
- the difference between grief and mourning
- memory and continuing bonds
- grief bursts and linking objects
- creative expression as a language for sorrow and love
- community witness and compassionate listening
- personal mourning practices for life beyond the workshop

The first session will introduce the materials needed and basic set up to paint outdoors. The instructor will review how to compose a painting using a viewfinder to assist in designing and scaling the subject matter. Basic drawing skills are a prerequisite so one can focus on learning color mixing on site to capture natural light and shadows. Students will have the experience of working outdoors with the instructor, asking questions and developing a painting created on location. Each major and minor color in the color wheel will be scientifically explained and discussed. The practice of color theory will be implemented by painting a simple still life painting. - Color to Canvas: Oil Painting Basics *NEW* Lynnanne O'Connor Daly128.0 | Wed, 5:30 - 8:30 PM | Room F Begins: July 8th | $262 | 6 weeks Starting from the beginning, students will be shown the proper handling of oil paint, including set-up and clean-up best practices. This class will explore the qualities that make oil painting unique, such as the ability of painting wet on wet, dry- brush, and the importance of the brush stroke; as well as explore various painting styles and techniques, referencing artists, and looking at classical and modern qualities of art. Students will paint from life and imagination, while learning the importance of observation. Students will be taught how to mix color, how to look at proportions and see light and shadow. Students will be shown distinctions specific to oil painting.
