Emphasis on observational drawing will include free-hand drawing from still life setups. Students will learn how to measure by sight and one class will be devoted to the basic principles of perspective. The course will explore drawing materials such as vine charcoal, charcoal pencils and working in pencil on various grades and types of paper. The subject matter will begin with simple set ups, still lifes and will progress to working from live models for the last 3 weeks. Their colors are lively and bright and very tonal. Each major and minor color in the color wheel will be scientifically explained and discussed. The practice of color theory will be implemented by painting a simple still life painting. Students will be shown how to set up still life objects and paint from life. Compositional options will also be explored.
