Rather than focusing on getting things “right,” we’ll explore how realism can be loosened, transformed, and used as a starting point for creating something unique, personal, and unexpected. Learn how to communicate your ideas through abstraction, build a painting, know when to push it further, and recognize when it’s finished. The goal is to create a refreshing space to experiment, trust your instincts, and develop a style that feels like your own.

Unless there is a request for guidance, students are free to choose concepts and subject matter. For example, still life, landscape, abstraction/imagination, or copying images from photo references. Students can paint in any medium such as oil, acrylic, and/or watercolor. Different skills and approaches will be discussed, brush and paint application, transparencies, drawing in color, color mixing, and color relationships to name a few.
