• Ceramic Handbuilding for Teens (13-18) Henry "Hank" Glener682.1 | Thu, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM | Room E Begins July 8 | $276 | 8 Weeks 
    Students will learn different varieties of clay work such as coil, slab, pinch pots, joined clay and pressed molds, which will be glazed with different glazing methods and fired in the onsite kiln. Students will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity.All materials, including clay, are included.This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.

  • Pieces for Peace Workshop Pauline Velez-Romano Sun, June 14, 3pm - 5pm | Room G Ages 12 - 20.This workshop will consist of 3 segments:
    • Engaging the youth in a discussion on Peace
    • Creating Artworks based around the concepts of Peace
    • Submitting student's art to CITYarts to have their artwork included in the
     Engaging in a Discussion on PeacePauline will engage with students about what peace means in their country, neighborhood, lives, etc. Students will explore themes and questions about peace and what it means to them, some examples include:
    1. What places in the world are peaceful?
    2. Which activities promote peace or make you feel at peace?
    3. What colors or textures are peaceful?
    4. If peace were an animal, what animal would it be?
    5. What is the opposite of peace?
    6. What does peace sound like? Smell like? Taste like? Feel like? Look like?
    These questions will lead to conversations about peace. Participants will develop their ideas and take the conversation in different directions, but keep the discussion on the topic of peace. Create artworksStudents will have the opportunity to sketch their ideas on scrap paper first, and then transfer their idea onto 6 inch x 6 inch (15.24 cm x 15.24 cm) paper or  onto the template provided in the CITYarts welcome packet.Materials used for the artworks will include pens, pencils, crayons, markers, paint, magazine clippings, and any other available art materials. Participants are encouraged to create unique images of peace that relate to their personal experience. Pauline will be engaging each participant and seeing if they need help developing their idea. Send artworks to CITYarts after workshopScan of students' artworks will be sent to CITYarts, Inc. to be posted on their website: https://www.cityarts.org/piecesforpeace-exhibition so the students may see their art side-by-side with the artworks from other students from around the world.
  • Color to Canvas: Oil Painting Basics *NEW* Lynnanne O'Connor Daly128.0 | Wed, 5:30 - 8:30 PM | Room F Begins: July 8th | $262 | 6 weeks Starting from the beginning, students will be shown the proper handling of oil paint, including set-up and clean-up best practices. This class will explore the qualities that make oil painting unique, such as the ability of painting wet on wet, dry- brush, and the importance of the brush stroke; as well as explore various painting styles and techniques, referencing artists, and looking at classical and modern qualities of art. Students will paint from life and imagination, while learning the importance of observation. Students will be taught how to mix color, how to look at proportions and see light and shadow. Students will be shown distinctions specific to oil painting. They will learn how to work in a compositional manner.This class meets once a week for 6 weeks.
    A $20 registration fee will be applied to the total.Must be 16 years or older to take this class. 
  • Comic Book Drawing (Ages 13-18) James Cox

Dive into the fundamentals of comic creation, including anatomy, perspective, panel composition, and visual storytelling. Learn how to draw dynamic characters, convey emotion through expressive faces, and design compelling page layouts that enhance your narrative.Throughout the course, students will develop their own comic, working through each stage-from rough sketches to polished, inked pages. Whether students are looking to build a portfolio, explore a career in comics, or bring a personal project to life, this class will give them the tools and techniques to create engaging, visually striking comics.Ages 13 through 18. A $20 registration fee will be applied to your total.

    Just starting out? Always liked taking pictures? Want to learn more? Teens will have the opportunity to learn digital photography basics! Students will be taught about aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, color balance, lighting, framing, editing, and more. Each student will have time shooting and participate in class reviews/critiques. Students will learn to shoot in different lighting, objects in motion, indoor, and outdoor scenes.
    There will be a $20 registration fee added to your total.

Students will draw and paint from life and imagination, while being shown how to mix color, how to look at proportions, and see light and shadow. Students will be shown distinctions specific to painting and to drawing, while learning to work in a compositional manner.This class meets once a week for 6 weeks.

  • Summer is the perfect time to get creative and try something new! In this class, you will gain basic watercolor skills, such as, layering and blending.
