She currently hosts Art.Heals.Grief Gatherings 4 times a year as day long retreats exploring art or movement modalities. We will explore the qualities that make oil painting unique, such as the ability of painting wet on wet, dry- brush, and the importance of the brush stroke.  We will explore various painting styles and techniques, referencing artists, and looking at classical and modern qualities of art. Students will paint from life and imagination, while learning the importance of observation. Students will be taught how to mix color, how to look at proportions and see light and shadow. Students will be shown distinctions specific to oil painting. They will learn how to work in a compositional manner.This class meets once a week for 6 weeks.

    Open for beginners and for those who already have an established watercolor art practice. I prefer students to set up still life objects and paint from life. However, students may come with preconceived ideas of how or what they would like to paint using a photograph as reference. Different approaches will be discussed, and techniques demonstrated, glazing, color washes, dry brush, color mixing, and color relationships to name a few. Compositional options will also be explored.     In this class, you may use either oil paint or acrylic paint. You will learn composition, application of color principles in describing what YOU want to express in your painting. I like to concentrate on Impressionist approaches, but you may use traditional approaches as well and I will fully explain both. I like to add theory through some power points occasionally, where we will look at master paintings and their approaches and ideas. I concentrate on what YOU want to express and I will help you get there!

  • Griselda Lessard Healy grew up in St. James, Long Island, New York. There she studied still-life and landscape painting with Paul Russotto before moving to Europe and later Canada, where she studied and worked primarily as a musician while never letting her painting work fall far from hand and mind. When Griselda returned to the USA in 1987, her focus moved primarily towards figure painting, sculpture, and drawing. She studied in NYC at the Art Students League with Harvey Dinnerstein and at the National Academy of Design with Mary Beth McKenzie.You can see more of Griselda's work on her Website
