    Open for beginners and for those who already have an established watercolor art practice. Students will be shown how to set up still life objects and paint from life. However, students may come with preconceived ideas of how or what they would like to paint using a photograph as reference. Different approaches will be discussed, and techniques demonstrated, glazing, color washes, dry brush, color mixing, and color relationships to name a few. Compositional options will also be explored.     Learn how to get your camera off automatic. Students will be taught about aperture, ISO, and shutter speed and how they all relate to getting the shot you desire. Properly expose your images through exposure lessons, shooting, and in-class review. Includes discussions of camera settings, sensors, lenses, and file formats.  Students will learn to shoot in different lighting, objects in motion, indoor, and outdoor scenes.  Various topics will be discussed about your  digital camera, flash, manual settings, and editing.

    Introductory class will concentrate on the techniques of pinching, coil, and slab building during the class and encourage the development of pottery and practical objects as well as encourage small sculpture. A kiln is on the premises and we fire as needed.  Extra attention is paid to new students and beginners.     For the first 6 weeks students will choose their subjects to paint and for those of you interested in figure painting, the last 4 sessions will have a live model option for portrait painting. Unless there is a request for guidance, students are free to choose concepts and subject matter. For example, still life, landscape, abstraction/imagination, or copying images from photo references. Students can paint in any medium such as oil, acrylic, and/or watercolor. Different skills and approaches will be discussed, brush and paint application, transparencies, drawing in color, color mixing, and color relationships to name a few. I will present ways to build and refine your painting process towards a satisfactory result. Line, space, scale, color, volume, and value will be considered, and composition will be emphasized.Experienced students may attend the 4 weeks with the live model, with the instructor's permission, for a total price of $295.
